"love - like - hate - understand" gibi fiiller bu kategoriye girer. Fakat bu farklı kullanım, anlam farklılılığına da yol açar. Zor bir sınav olacak. a cümlesinde think, fikir gösteren soyut anlamlı bir fiildir. Kişilerin belli konularda fikir sahibi olmaları fiziksel bir durum değildir. b cümlesinde ise think , fiziksel ve görülebilir bir özelliği olan somut bir eylemdir. Örneğin birşey düşündüğünü görerek anladığımız bir kişiye “Öyle derin derin ne düşünüyorsun?” diye sorarız. Düşünme eylemi fiziksel bir durum olmuştur. - HAVE a I have two cats and a dog. Do you have any pets? Benim bir köpeğim ve bir de kedim var. Senin evcil hayvanın var mı? b I am having a nice time in my speaking classes. Konuşma sınıflarında hoş vakit geçiriyorum. Birinci cümlede “have” fiili sahip olmak anlamında asla continuous olarak kullanılamaz. İkinci örnekte ise “have” fiili iyi zaman geçirmek, eylenmek anlamında somut bir yapıdadır. - SMELL a All flowers smell nice. Bütün çiçekler güzel kokar. b The little girl is smelling the flowers. Küçük kız çiçekleri kokluyor. Birinci cümlede “smell” soyut bir eylemdir. Çiçekler kokma eylemini fiziksel ve görülebilir bir şekilde yapmazlar. Bu bir durumdur. İkinci cümlede ise “smell” fiili aktif bir anlamdadır. Küçük kızın bu koklama eylemini fiziksel olarak yapması görülüp, başkalarına da gösterilebilir. Özellikle sınavlarda cümlenin hangi tense olduğunu anlamak için time expression’ların bilinmesi çok önemlidir. - At the moment / now şu anda / şimdi The students are studying in the classroom at the moment / now. Şu anda öğrenciler sınıfta ders çalışıyorlar. - At present Şu anda At present all the farmers in the village are harvesting their crops. Köydeki çiftçiler şu anda mahsüllerin topluyorlar. - For the time being Şu esnada My father will buy a new car soon. For the time being he is using mine. Babam yeni bir araba alacak. Şu esnada benimkini kullanıyor. Ayrıca "Look! Listen! Be Careful!" gibi ünlemler de arkasından gelecek cümlenin şimdiki zaman olacağını gösterir. Özellikle sınavlarda bu ipuçlarını yakalamak çok önemlidir. - Listen! Somebody is following us. Dinle! Birisi bizi takip ediyor. - Look ! A car is coming. Baksana! USE 1- Unfinished Actions We use the present continuous for things that are happening at the moment of speaking. These things usually last for quite a short time and they are not finished when we are talking about them. I'm reading a great book at the moment. Kids are playing in the garden now. Suzie is sleeping. 2- Temporary Situations We can also use this tense for other kinds of temporary situations, even if the action isn't happening at this moment. John's working in a coffee as a waiter until he finds a better job. He might not be working now. She's staying with her uncle for a week. 3- Temporary Habits We can use the present continuous for temporary or new habits. We often use this with expressions like 'these days' or 'at the moment'. He's working a lot these days. She's running every morning she didn't use to do this. You're playing computer games too much. 4- Annoying Habits Another use is for habits that are not regular, but that happen very often. We usually use an adverb like 'always', 'forever' or 'constantly' for this kind of use. We use the present continuous in this way to talk about an annoying habit. You're forever losing your books! She's constantly missing the school bus. Lucy's always crying in the classroom! 5- Definite Future Plans If we have already made a plan and we are pretty sure that the event will happen in the future, we can use present continuous tense. In other words, we use present continuous tense for definite future arrangements. I'm going to Antalya tomorrow. We're leaving the school at 4 PM. I'm flying to New York next month.
